App Background & Palette
PostRoll renders an animated background behind every page — a soft colour gradient, an optional grid, and a vignette. You can pick the palette, change the grid, and turn parts of the effect on or off. Your choice is saved to your account, so the app remembers your look on reload, after you sign out, and on any other device you sign in to.
Open the settings
Section titled “Open the settings”- Open the main Sidebar (the panel on the left).
- Scroll to your account menu at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Click Background (paintbrush icon).
The Background Settings dialog opens. Changes only apply when you click Save — closing the dialog or clicking Cancel leaves your current look untouched.
What you can change
Section titled “What you can change”Palette
Section titled “Palette”The palette controls the animated gradient and the accent colours used by some in-app components. Pick from 20 named palettes — each one shows a gradient preview and a row of swatches in the dropdown so you can compare at a glance.
Palettes include warm options (warm, sunset, sepia), cool options (cool, ocean, blues), high-contrast looks (neon, cyberpunk, scifi), and muted choices (mono, earth, pastel).
A faint grid drawn over the background to give the page a tabletop or graph-paper feel.
- Show grid — turn the grid on or off entirely.
- Size — spacing between grid lines or dots, in pixels (between 2 and 200; default 12).
- Style — choose Lines for a classic graph-paper grid, or Dots for a sparser stippled look.
Vignette
Section titled “Vignette”A soft darkening around the edges of the screen that draws the eye toward the centre. Toggle Show vignette to turn it on or off.
Interactive background
Section titled “Interactive background”When Interactive background is on, the gradient subtly responds to your mouse, adding a sense of depth. Turning it off keeps the gradient fully static — useful if you find motion distracting or you’re on a low-power device.
How saving works
Section titled “How saving works”When you click Save:
- Your settings update immediately in the app.
- They’re cached on this device so reloads are instant — no flash of the old look.
- If you’re signed in, they’re saved to your account so you’ll see the same look on any other device you sign in to.
If you’re not signed in, your settings are still kept on this device but won’t follow you to other browsers.
The Appearance settings page
Section titled “The Appearance settings page”The same background controls also live on Settings → Appearance, reachable from your avatar menu or the command palette — and that page owns two more choices. There’s no Save button here — every change takes effect the moment you make it. Your palette, background and wikilink choices are saved to your account and follow you to any other device you sign in on; theme and sound are remembered on this device only.
Choose Light, Dark, or Match system. On Match system, PostRoll follows whatever your device is set to, and the page tells you which one you’re currently seeing. The quick theme toggle in the sidebar is a shortcut to the same setting.
Play interface sounds turns PostRoll’s audio cues — dice rolls, notifications and the like — on or off. It doesn’t affect the audio you play at your own table, only the app’s own effects.
Reset to defaults
Section titled “Reset to defaults”There is no one-click reset. To go back to the original look, open Background Settings and choose: palette Cool, Show grid on, Size 12, Style Lines, Vignette on, Interactive background on, then click Save.
