Selling event tickets
You can require a paid ticket to RSVP for an Outpost event. PostRoll holds the seat during checkout so you can’t oversell; refunds are automatic if you cancel the event.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- A Collector subscription.
- Stripe Connect set up and monetisation enabled on your Outpost — see Connecting Stripe.
- The event already exists (create it on the Events tab if it doesn’t yet).
Create the ticket product
Section titled “Create the ticket product”- Open Outpost → Shop → New product.
- Pick Type → Event ticket.
- Choose the Event from the dropdown. Only upcoming events in this Outpost show.
- Set the price + currency.
- Fill in the name (e.g. “Game Night Ticket — Tues 8pm”) and click Create draft.
Creating the ticket-product automatically marks the event as ticket-required, so the buyer-facing event card will show a Buy ticket button instead of the free RSVP buttons. You can turn the ticket requirement off later if you want a donation-style optional ticket.
Publish
Section titled “Publish”On the product edit page, click Publish. PostRoll provisions the Stripe Product + Price on your connected account; the event card flips to a Buy ticket button immediately.
Capacity + sold-out behaviour
Section titled “Capacity + sold-out behaviour”Capacity comes from the event itself (set when you created the event). PostRoll uses a 15-minute reservation lock — when a buyer clicks Buy, the seat is reserved for them in the database while Stripe Checkout is open. If they don’t complete checkout in time, the seat is auto-released; if they pay, the reservation is consumed and they get the RSVP.
When the event is full, new buyers see a Sold out button — no double-booking, no oversell.
Refunds via cancellation
Section titled “Refunds via cancellation”If you need to cancel the event:
- Open Outpost → Events.
- On the event’s card, click Cancel (mod-only).
- Confirm. Optionally add a short note that goes out to attendees in the cancellation notification.
- PostRoll bulk-refunds every paid attendee via Stripe and removes their RSVPs. Refunds usually land in 5-10 business days.
PostRoll’s 10% platform fee is also refunded back to the buyer (you don’t eat the fee on a cancellation). Past sales of other products aren’t affected.
Platform fee
Section titled “Platform fee”PostRoll takes a 10% application fee with a $0.30 minimum per ticket — same as other one-time product sales. Stripe processing fees are taken from your balance separately.
Edge cases
Section titled “Edge cases”- Members can join the waitlist on a sold-out event, but ticketed events don’t auto-promote from it today — buyers either get a seat or see “Sold out”, even when a paid ticket is later refunded.
- Past events (whose start time has passed) hide the Buy button — consumed at start.
