Live sessions
A session is a single live play occurrence inside a room — typically one night at the table. The GM flips the room into “live” by starting a session; this is what unlocks voice/video and saves transcripts for everyone.
Outside an active session the room still works for chat, planning, and prep — but voice/video stays closed for non-GMs and transcripts won’t persist.
What starting a session unlocks
Section titled “What starting a session unlocks”- Voice and video for every room member. Players can only join voice while a session is live. As the GM you can join without one, so you can check your mic and camera before anyone arrives.
- Persistent transcripts in the room’s Transcript channel. Lines spoken with mic transcription on save to the room while the session is active.
- A Live ● badge on the room’s group in the chat sidebar so players know to jump in.
Starting a session
Section titled “Starting a session”- Click Enter Play on the room landing page to enter the live view.
- Open the right-hand sidebar and click the Session tab (radio icon).
- Under Live session, click Start Session. The button turns red and changes to End Session.
PostRoll numbers the session for you (Session 1, Session 2, …) and records when it began. Only one session can run at a time in a room — clicking Start while one is live just returns you to it.
Ending a session
Section titled “Ending a session”- Open the Session tab in the right-hand sidebar.
- Click End Session.
The session is kept as a record of when you played. New people can no longer join voice, and anything typed into the transcript stops being saved.
Who can start and end sessions
Section titled “Who can start and end sessions”Only the room owner or a member with the GM role can start or end a session. Players and observers see the Live indicator but no controls.
Joining voice during a session
Section titled “Joining voice during a session”The voice and video controls sit apart from the Session tab — open them with the Voice panel button in that same tab. Voice belongs to the room itself, not to its chat, so nobody joins your call just by opening the chat.
Live indicator across the app
Section titled “Live indicator across the app”While a session is active, the room’s group in your chat sidebar shows a small Live ● pill in the corner. That’s the same signal players see — handy for GMs running multiple campaigns to know which one is currently live.
What happens to transcripts and game-log entries
Section titled “What happens to transcripts and game-log entries”- Transcripts save to the room’s Transcript channel while the session is active. Each line is tagged with the session it belongs to, so you can read a night back in one piece.
- Game log entries — dice rolls and the like — post to the room’s Game Log channel at any time, session or not. You can roll during prep. Sessions only gate voice and transcripts.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Start Session is missing. You aren’t a GM — you need to be the room owner or hold the GM role, on a Booster subscription. Ask the room owner to promote you, or check who holds what: click the player-count chip in the room’s top bar, or the Manage pill on the Party panel in the Overview tab.
“No active session for this room” when joining voice. A non-GM is trying to join voice before a session has been started. Ask the GM to click Start Session.
Two clicks of Start Session do nothing the second time. That’s expected. A room can only have one session running at a time, so the second click just returns you to the one already live.
The Live badge didn’t update. It’s near-instant on the GM’s own browser; everyone else’s catches up within about a minute. Reload if you want it sooner.
