Voice & transcription

Voice, video and transcripts all hang off one switch: whether the room is live. The GM flips it from the Session tab in the scene sidebar; once the table is live, everyone gets a Join voice chip on the left edge of the map.

Under Live session in the Session tab, GMs get a single button:

  • Start Session — takes the room live. The GM is asked whether to open voice at the same time.
  • End Session — takes it back down, and closes voice for everyone.

Players see a red Live pill while a session is running, and get a notification that the table is live with a link that drops them straight into voice.

  1. Open the room’s play view. On a desktop or tablet the voice dock sits on the left edge of the map; on a phone it’s a bar at the bottom-left.

  2. Click Join voice. The first time, a ready check lets you pick your microphone and camera, hear your own level, and choose how you want to arrive — muted, camera on, or push-to-talk. Tick Always join with these settings to skip the check next time.

  3. You’re in. Your mic is live unless you chose to join muted or use push-to-talk. Faces appear in the dock as cameras come on; with no cameras it shows a row of avatars instead, and whoever is talking gets a green ring.

You can also join from the Session tab’s voice card, from the Join now banner on the room’s page, or from the Voice strip in chat — all of those land you in voice on arrival.

  • On the map, a soft ring appears around the tokens of whoever is speaking. Turn it off under Settings → Show who’s talking on the map.
  • In the dock, faces and avatars get a green ring while they talk.
  • In the Players tab, everyone in voice carries a mic badge; observers who can only listen carry headphones.
  • Music dips while people talk and eases back when they stop. Choose how much under Settings → Lower table audio while people talk.

For mute, deafen, camera, push-to-talk, devices and hotkeys, see Voice controls. GMs: see Voice for GMs.

Under Live transcription in the Session tab:

  • The transcript toggle starts and stops capturing what’s said.
  • Speaking as picks who the lines are attributed to — useful when you’re voicing an NPC rather than talking as yourself.
  • The language picker sets the language being transcribed.
  • Below those, the transcript streams live as people talk.

If the tab reads “Transcription is unavailable here.”, transcription isn’t available in this context.

Click History at the top-right of the Live transcription section. The room’s transcript channel opens in the chat sidebar, so scrollback sits alongside your other channels rather than in a separate window.

See room transcripts for what’s kept and how to search it.
