Measuring distance
The ruler answers “can I reach them?” without anyone counting squares out loud. Players, GMs and observers can all use it.
Drawing a ruler
Section titled “Drawing a ruler”- Pick Measure Mode in the toolbar, or press M.
- Click where you want to measure from. If you click on a token, the ruler snaps to that token’s centre.
- Move your cursor — the line follows it and the distance updates live.
- Click again to lock the ruler in place.
- Click a third time to start a fresh measurement, or press Escape to clear it.
The four unit modes
Section titled “The four unit modes”Open VTT Settings in the toolbar and find the Measurement section. The Units picker changes how the ruler counts:
| Units | The label reads |
|---|---|
| Grid Squares | The distance in whole squares, e.g. 4 squares. |
| D&D 5ft per Square | The distance in feet, e.g. 20 ft. |
| Daggerheart Ranges | A range band name, with cross-hatch marks and labels along the ruler where each band ends. |
| Daggerheart Range Rings | The same band names, drawn as coloured rings spreading out from the starting point. |
This is a personal setting — changing it doesn’t change what anyone else’s ruler shows.
The Daggerheart bands
Section titled “The Daggerheart bands”Both Daggerheart modes use the same five bands, measured out from the starting point:
| Band | Reaches out to |
|---|---|
| Melee | 1 square |
| Very Close | 3 squares |
| Close | 6 squares |
| Far | 12 squares |
| Very Far | beyond 12 squares |
In Range Rings mode each band gets its own colour, so a single click near a creature shows the whole envelope at once — handy when the whole table needs to agree on who’s in Close range.
