Creating a group

A group is the container for one campaign or community: a member list, channels, optional voice, custom emoji, roles, and an audit log.

  1. In the chat sidebar, click the + at the top of the Groups section.
  2. Pick New group.
  3. Name it (you can rename later) and pick an avatar / icon.
  4. Click Create.

You’re dropped into the group’s home view as the owner. By default the group has one channel — usually #general — that you can rename or replace.

If this group is for a campaign, link it to a play room so the chat surface and the virtual tabletop share state. From Group settings → Overview, pick the room from the Linked room dropdown (or create a new one).

A linked group surfaces:

  • Voice channels shared with the room’s live voice session.
  • The active session banner across all channels when the room goes live.
  • Two-way slash commands (/scene, /init).
  • Live captions from session transcription.

See Scene bridge for the chat-side behaviours.

  • Description and topic. Set the group description on the Overview tab; set per-channel topics in each channel’s settings.
  • Accent colour. Pick one to tint mention chips, headers, and reaction halos in the group’s channels. See Channel banner and accent.
  • Custom emoji. Upload a few signature emoji to give the group a distinct flavour. See Custom emojis.
  • Roles. Set up roles before inviting people if you have a permission structure in mind. See Channel permissions.
