Connecting Stripe
To sell anything through your Outpost — digital products, paid membership tiers, ticketed events — you need to connect a Stripe account. Stripe processes the payment, handles tax, sends payouts to your bank; PostRoll takes a small platform fee.
This is a one-time setup per Postroll account. If you own multiple Outposts, the same Stripe account powers all of them.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- A Booster or Collector subscription (Outpost ownership tier).
- A bank account that can receive payouts in your country.
- Government-issued ID (Stripe asks for KYC during onboarding).
PostRoll currently supports Stripe Connect in: US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan, Singapore.
Walkthrough
Section titled “Walkthrough”- Open your Outpost → click Settings in the header.
- Scroll to the Monetisation section.
- Pick your country from the dropdown. This is permanent — Stripe doesn't allow accounts to move between countries.
- Click Connect with Stripe.
- You'll be redirected to Stripe-hosted onboarding. Stripe asks for your legal name, business details (or “individual” if you're solo), bank account, and verification documents.
- When Stripe is done, you'll be redirected back to your Outpost settings. The monetisation panel updates to show your account status.
Account states
Section titled “Account states”After clicking Connect you might land in one of four states:
- Not connected — you haven't started yet. Pick a country + click Connect.
- Onboarding — you started but didn't finish Stripe's flow. Click Continue onboarding to pick up where you left off.
- Restricted — Stripe needs more info (extra documents, larger bank account verification, etc). Click Continue and complete the outstanding requirements.
- Ready —
Charges enabled✅ andPayouts enabled✅. You can flip the Enable monetisation toggle.
Enabling monetisation
Section titled “Enabling monetisation”Once your Stripe account is ready, flip the Enable monetisation toggle in the Monetisation panel. Until you do, your Outpost can't host paid products or tiers — even with a ready Stripe account, nothing is for sale by default.
What gets shared with Stripe
Section titled “What gets shared with Stripe”- Your legal name, address, date of birth, and tax ID (for tax compliance and KYC).
- Your bank account details (so Stripe can send you payouts).
PostRoll never sees your bank details or card info — that lives in Stripe.
Platform fee
Section titled “Platform fee”PostRoll takes a small application fee on every transaction through your Outpost. The exact percentage is shown when you list a product or create a tier. The rest goes to your Stripe balance and pays out to your bank on Stripe's standard schedule (every 2-7 days depending on country).
Payouts & taxes
Section titled “Payouts & taxes”- Payouts to your bank happen on Stripe's standard schedule. View and configure in your Stripe dashboard (click “Stripe dashboard” on the monetisation panel).
- Stripe Tax handles VAT / sales tax collection at checkout where
applicable. PostRoll passes
automatic_tax.enabled = trueon every Checkout Session, but actual tax calculation only runs once you activate Stripe Tax in your dashboard. Status badge — once your account is ready, the Monetisation panel shows a Stripe Tax — active / needs setup / unavailable row underneath Charges/Payouts so you can see at a glance whether your sales are being taxed. - 1099-K (US) and equivalent tax forms are issued by Stripe directly to you at year-end if you cross thresholds.
Setting up Stripe Tax
Section titled “Setting up Stripe Tax”If the Monetisation panel shows Stripe Tax — needs setup, walk through these steps from your Stripe dashboard:
- Open the Stripe dashboard from your Outpost’s monetisation panel.
- Navigate to Tax → Settings.
- Set your origin address — usually your business address.
- Add at least one tax registration for the jurisdictions you need to collect tax in. Stripe will guide you through the required IDs.
- Save. The Monetisation panel will switch to Stripe Tax — active on next page load.
If a payout fails
Section titled “If a payout fails”You'll get an in-app + email notification “A payout to your bank failed”. Open the Stripe dashboard via the panel and update your bank details. Subsequent payouts retry automatically once the issue is fixed.
Disconnecting
Section titled “Disconnecting”Stripe doesn't let you outright delete a Connect account from inside PostRoll — you'd need to contact Stripe directly. But you can:
- Flip the Enable monetisation toggle off to stop new sales.
- Archive any active products / tiers in your settings.
If you're leaving Postroll entirely, contact hello@postroll.app and we'll help close things out properly.
