Creating a monster or NPC
Monsters and NPCs use the same cinematic creator as player characters, shaped around a stat block instead of a class and level. Modifiers, saves, hit points, and passive senses are all worked out for you as you fill it in.
Start a new monster
Section titled “Start a new monster”-
Open the actor creator and choose Monster as the type.
-
Pick a mode:
- Full stat block — the complete flow, from identity through legendary actions.
- Quick NPC — just the essentials: identity, ability scores, combat, a few actions, and review.
The steps
Section titled “The steps”-
Identity — name the creature, add a portrait, and set the stat-block basics: size, creature type, alignment, and Challenge Rating (tap a CR chip). Proficiency bonus follows the CR automatically; turn off Auto from CR to enter it by hand for homebrew.
-
Ability scores & combat — the six scores (with a live modifier on each tile), hit points, Armor Class, and speeds. Enter a hit-dice formula like
7d10+21, then Roll HP to roll it on the 3D dice, or Use average to take the standard value. -
Defences & senses — saving-throw proficiencies, then a damage-defence grid where you tap each damage type once and set it to Resist, Immune, or Vulnerable. Condition immunities, senses (darkvision and the like, in feet), and languages are all tap-to-toggle — no typing.
-
Actions — the creature’s actions are cards. Pick them from the compendium, or tap Create custom to author your own: choose the action card template, fill in the attack bonus, damage, and effect, and it’s created and attached.
-
Special abilities & traits — traits like Keen Sight or Magic Resistance, also as cards — pick from the compendium or create your own.
-
Legendary actions — appears for Challenge Rating 5 and up (or any creature you’ve marked legendary). Pick or author legendary action cards.
-
Review — look the stat block over, then bring the creature to life.
Viewing the stat block
Section titled “Viewing the stat block”Once saved, your monster opens in the same cinematic sheet a character uses. The Stats tab shows the stat-block header, ability and save tiles, senses, and defences; the Cards tab lists its actions, traits, and legendary actions. Tap an ability, save, skill, or attack to roll it.
