Your first event

You don’t need to set anything up before recording history. PostRoll’s timeline ships with an implicit Gregorian calendar so you can add an event the second you create a world.

  1. Open your world and click Timeline in the navigation.

  2. Click + Event in the top-right corner of the workspace.

  3. Type a title — for example, King Aldren signs the Treaty of Three Crowns.

  4. Type a when value. Any of these work:

    • 1247 SR — a year + an era short-name from your primary calendar.
    • 2026-04-04 — an ISO date.
    • 12 April 2026 — a Gregorian month name.
    • Session 8 — a campaign session.
    • soon — a floating trigger you’ll resolve later.
    • ? — leave it undated.

A small chip below the input shows what PostRoll parsed it as.

  5. Pick a layer. New worlds come with five built-in layers (World History, Sessions, Prophecy, Rumours & Myths, Agenda). The default is World History.

  6. Click Create.

The event appears immediately on the Timeline tab — a small pill on the layer track you picked, positioned along the era bands at the top.

Even with no calendar, no cycles, and no other setup, your event already has:

  • A position on the world’s master timeline.
  • A layer assignment so you can hide / show it independently of other layers.
  • A default visibility of World — visible to anyone who can read the world.
  • A default certainty of fact — drawn with a solid border (rumours, myths, and prophecies appear with dashed or glowing borders).

You can edit any of these by clicking the event to open the Inspector in the right rail.
