Invisibility and illusions
PostRoll lets you mark a token as invisible or as an illusion. Combined with the right detection modes on the viewers’ tokens, these flags give you the tools for stealth, magical concealment, and illusion-based encounters.
Invisible tokens
Section titled “Invisible tokens”A token marked Invisible is hidden from any player whose own tokens don’t have a sense that pierces invisibility. This is what makes invisibility feel like a real condition rather than a metagame note.
Who sees an invisible token
Section titled “Who sees an invisible token”| Viewer | Sees it? |
|---|---|
| The GM | Always — GMs see everything. |
| A player listed in the token’s Controlled by field | Always — the carrier sees their own. |
| Any other player whose own token has Blindsight within range | Yes |
| Any other player whose own token has Tremorsense within range | Yes |
| Any other player whose own token has Truesight within range | Yes |
| Any other player whose own token has See Invisibility within range | Yes |
| Everyone else | No — the token simply isn’t visible on their screen. |
The “within range” check uses the relevant detection mode’s range from the viewer’s token. So a player with a token that has Truesight 1500 sees invisible tokens within 1500 px of that token; an invisible token further away stays hidden.
Turning a token invisible
Section titled “Turning a token invisible”The toggle lives in the token’s settings:
- Right-click the token → Settings.
- Scroll to the Behaviour section.
- Switch Invisible on.
The flag persists on the token. Toggle it off when the spell ends, the rogue is detected, or the encounter ends.
Illusions
Section titled “Illusions”A token marked Illusion is currently a softer flag — informational, not strictly hiding. The render side gives a hint:
- Truesight viewers see the illusion at half opacity (a faint outline) — a visual cue that the figure isn’t real.
- All other viewers see the illusion as if it were real, at full opacity.
Turning a token into an illusion
Section titled “Turning a token into an illusion”Same dialog as invisibility — Token Settings → Behaviour → Illusion toggle.
Common patterns
Section titled “Common patterns”| Scenario | Set on the disguised/hidden token | Players who’ll see it |
|---|---|---|
| Rogue under Invisibility | Invisible: on | Anyone with see-invisibility / blindsight / tremorsense / truesight in range |
| Wizard’s Mirror Image duplicates | Illusion: on (one per duplicate) | Everyone sees them at full opacity; truesight viewers get a hint |
| Demon hidden by Veil | Illusion: on, plus Invisible: on if the spell is total | Truesight pierces; sight alone does not |
| NPC hiding behind Greater Invisibility | Invisible: on | Only blindsight / tremorsense / truesight (NOT see-invisibility) — at GM discretion, you can keep the See Invisibility detection mode mode at a smaller range |
What invisibility does NOT do
Section titled “What invisibility does NOT do”- It doesn’t disable a token’s interactions on the canvas (clicking, dragging, targeting still work for the GM and the carrier). It only suppresses visual rendering for non-piercing viewers.
- It doesn’t block targeting from non-piercing viewers automatically — your game system’s rules decide that. Combine with conditions or your system’s targeting rules for full enforcement.
- It doesn’t change a token’s effect on lighting (an invisible torchbearer still casts light; that’s typically what you want — an invisible source glow may give them away).
