Leaving an Outpost

  1. Open the Outpost.
  2. Click the button in the top-right corner of the cover image, next to Follow.
  3. Choose Leave Outpost and confirm.

You can also leave from the Outpost’s chat group settings, under Danger zone, if that’s where you happen to be.

What stays:

  • Your posts and comments stay exactly where they are. Leaving is not a delete button, and nothing you wrote is removed.
  • Your chat messages stay in the channels you sent them to.
  • Anything you bought from the Outpost’s shop is still yours.

What you lose:

  • Members-only posts on the wall.
  • The Outpost’s chat channels.
  • Any roles you were given, including a supporter rank. Roles don’t survive leaving — if you come back, the host grants them again.
  • Members-only events and their RSVPs.

Following is separate. Leaving doesn’t unfollow you, so the Outpost’s public posts keep appearing in your home feed. Unfollow separately if you want it gone entirely.

That depends on the host’s door setting, and the confirmation tells you which one you’re dealing with before you commit:

  • Anyone can join — rejoin whenever you like.
  • Anyone can ask — you’d need to ask again.
  • Invite only — you’d need a new invite.

Rejoining is a fresh start on access, not on history: your old posts are still there and still yours.

Leaving is refused while a paid tier is active, and that’s on purpose — leaving quietly while the charges continued is the one outcome nobody wants.

  1. Cancel your patronage first, from the Patronage tab → Manage subscription.
  2. You keep supporter access to the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
  3. Once it lapses, leave normally.

See Supporting an Outpost for what cancelling does on its own — cancelling is not leaving, and plenty of people do one without the other.

Because an Outpost with no owner can’t be administered by anybody. Every owner-only control — settings, the danger zone, payouts — checks who the owner is, and if that’s nobody, those controls answer nobody.

If you’re done with an Outpost you own, archive or delete it from Settings → Danger zone. Ownership transfer is not built yet; until it is, an Outpost you own with members and a shop is one you have to wind down deliberately rather than walk away from.

  • Removed (kicked) — your membership ends and you can rejoin under whatever the door setting is.
  • Banned — your membership ends and you can’t come back until a moderator lifts it. An invite link won’t get you past a ban, and neither will an approved request.

Either way your posts and comments stay up unless a moderator removes them separately.
