Set up a campaign
Starting a campaign touches half of PostRoll: a world for your setting, a scene for the battle map, a room for your table. Here’s the whole journey in order — each step links to the page that covers it in depth.
-
Create your world. Open Worlds from the sidebar, click + Create World, and name your setting — everything else can wait. This gives your campaign a home for its wiki, entities, maps, and timeline. Create your first world walks through it.
-
Write just enough lore. A handful of wiki pages — the starting town, the hook, session zero notes — is plenty; typing
[[links pages together as the wiki grows. Do it all from the World Hub, your world’s front door. -
Make your key people and places entities. The villain, the patron, the capital — as entities they become canonical records the wiki, boards, and maps all point at. See creating and editing entities.
-
Prepare your first scene. Create a scene, upload a battle map (or generate one with the Map Foundry), and set up the grid. Do the slow prep — walls, lighting, fog — now, in private. Creating a scene covers all of it.
-
Create the room. Go to Rooms and click + Create Room — name it, add a description and cover image, and set a seat cap if you want one. Then open the room’s settings and link your World so the table shares its wiki and boards. Your room hub tours everything the room does.
-
Invite your players. Generate an invite link from the room’s Share dialog and drop it in your group chat — opening it grants access automatically. Share links explains access levels and expiry; Join a game shows what your players will see.
-
Schedule session one. In the room’s Schedule tab, add a session — players RSVP right from the next-session banner and get reminders before game night. Can’t pick a night? A Find a time poll surfaces the best slot. See Your room hub.
-
Run it. On game night, click Enter Play, then start the session from the Session tab — that opens voice and video to your players and saves the transcript. Live sessions covers starting, ending, and who can do it.
