Reporting and moderation
Two flag surfaces — a single message, or a member’s overall behavior — feed one moderation queue per group. Group moderators triage from inside group settings; PostRoll staff see everything through the staff moderation dashboard.
Report a message
Section titled “Report a message”- Right-click (or long-press on touch) the offending message.
- Pick Report message at the bottom of the menu. The entry only appears on other people’s messages.
- Choose a category — Spam, Harassment, or Other — and add a short reason (1–500 characters).
- Submit report.
You’ll get a “Report received” toast. If you accidentally re-report the same message, the second submission silently folds into your existing open report — no stacked duplicates, no extra toast spam.
Report a user
Section titled “Report a user”A user report flags a pattern of behavior across the group rather than one specific message. Use it for sustained harassment, bot accounts, repeated rule-breaking — anything that wouldn’t fit in a single-message context.
You can open the dialog from two places:
- Member popover — open the conversation details panel, Members tab, click a member, pick Report user.
- Message context menu — right-click someone’s message and pick Report user (right under Report message).
The dialog is identical to the message version: category + 1–500 char reason. Reports are scoped to the group whose channel you opened the menu from. Reporting a user in a DM isn’t currently supported — file the report from one of your shared groups instead.
Moderate the queue
Section titled “Moderate the queue”- Group settings → Reports. The tab only appears if you have the Manage messages permission (or Administrator).
- Switch the surface toggle between Messages and Members to see each queue. Each surface has its own Open / Resolved / Dismissed filter with live counts.
- For each open report:
- Resolve — you took action (deleted the message, kicked the user, etc.) and the report is closed.
- Dismiss — the report doesn’t need action. Closes without marking it actionable.
- Review in chat (message reports only) — closes the settings panel and jumps the chat window to the original message so you can read it in context.
Resolved and dismissed reports stay in the queue under their respective filters so you can audit past decisions. There’s no re-open path from the UI — flips like that go through the staff moderation dashboard so they leave an audit trail.
What reporters see
Section titled “What reporters see”Just the toast. Reporters aren’t notified when their report is resolved or dismissed — the queue is the moderator’s working set, not a public-facing case log.
Permissions
Section titled “Permissions”- Filing a report — any group member can report any other group member’s message or behavior. Self-reports are blocked.
- Triaging the queue — Manage messages or Administrator on the group.
- The same permission gates both Resolve and Dismiss; there’s no separate “view-only” mod role.
