Supporting an Outpost
Many Outposts offer supporter memberships — Patreon-style monthly or yearly subscriptions that unlock supporter-only channels, posts, events, and other perks the host has set up.
Find supporter tiers
Section titled “Find supporter tiers”- Open the Outpost you want to support.
- Click the Support tab in the Outpost header.
- Browse the tier cards — each shows the price, billing interval, and the perks the host has called out.
If the Outpost doesn’t show a Support tab or has no tiers listed, the host hasn’t set up paid memberships yet.
Subscribe
Section titled “Subscribe”- Click Subscribe on the tier you want.
- PostRoll opens Stripe-hosted checkout in a new tab. Enter your card details, confirm any tax info, and complete the payment.
- You’re redirected back to the Outpost. Within a couple of seconds the tier card flips to Current and your supporter access (channels, posts, etc.) is unlocked.
You’ll get an in-app + email confirmation: “Your subscription is active”.
Manage your subscription
Section titled “Manage your subscription”The same Support tab shows your current tier. Click Manage subscription to open Stripe’s billing portal, scoped to that Outpost. From there you can:
- Update your saved card
- View past invoices
- Cancel — your access continues until the end of your current billing period, then ends automatically
- Switch payment method
Switching tiers
Section titled “Switching tiers”You can switch tiers right in the app — no need to bounce through the Stripe billing portal.
- Open the Outpost you support.
- Click the Support tab.
- On the tier you want to switch to, click Switch to this tier.
- Confirm. Stripe charges or credits you for the changeover window automatically (proration).
Your supporter role updates within a couple of seconds (Stripe webhooks reconcile the change). The billing portal still works for anything fancier — adding a backup card, downloading invoices, changing your billing email.
What happens if I cancel?
Section titled “What happens if I cancel?”- You keep access through the end of the billing period you’ve already paid for.
- At period end, your supporter role is removed automatically and any supporter-gated channels / posts / products disappear from view.
- The Outpost host gets a quiet heads-up that you cancelled (no pressure tactics — they can see who’s leaving so they can follow up if they want, that’s all).
Cancelling isn’t leaving. You stay a member of the Outpost with whatever access ordinary members have; you just stop paying and stop holding the rank. Plenty of people do exactly that.
Cancelling vs leaving the Outpost
Section titled “Cancelling vs leaving the Outpost”If you want out of the community as well, cancel first and leave after. Leaving is refused while a paid tier is still active — leaving quietly while the charges continued is the one outcome nobody wants, so PostRoll won’t let it happen by accident.
- Cancel here, from Manage subscription.
- Keep your supporter access to the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Once it lapses, leave from the ⋯ menu on the Outpost’s cover.
See Leaving an Outpost for what leaving does to your posts and your access.
What if my card fails?
Section titled “What if my card fails?”If Stripe can’t charge your renewal you’ll get notified, and the host’s Outpost shows a small “Update payment” badge to you. Stripe automatically retries the charge on a smart schedule (usually 4 attempts over ~2 weeks). Update your card in the billing portal to clear it.
If all retries fail, your subscription auto-cancels and you lose supporter access. You can resubscribe any time.
Refunds
Section titled “Refunds”Refunds on supporter memberships are at the host’s discretion — contact them directly through the Outpost’s chat or a public contact link. If a refund is issued through Stripe, past-period access is preserved (you keep what you’ve already paid for; only future periods are affected).
If the charge looks fraudulent or unfamiliar, email hello@postroll.app before filing a chargeback through your bank — we can usually resolve directly.
