Clearing and leaving a conversation
The conversation details panel’s About tab has a Danger zone at the bottom for the destructive actions: clearing every message, and leaving a DM. Both ask for a confirm before firing and can’t be undone.
Open the danger zone
Section titled “Open the danger zone”Open the details panel from the chat header → About tab → scroll to the bottom. You’ll only see the buttons you’re allowed to use; otherwise the section is hidden.
Clear all messages
Section titled “Clear all messages”Who can do it:
- DM — any participant. DMs are treated as collectively owned (the same rule that lets any participant add a member or rename the conversation).
- Channel — any group member with Manage messages (or Administrator), the same permission that gates pin/unpin and other-message moderation.
Clicking Clear messages confirms once, then deletes every message in the conversation. The action is irreversible. Channel attachments stored in shared media drop out of the Files tab and Links tab automatically.
Leave conversation
Section titled “Leave conversation”DM-only. Removes you from the conversation’s member list; the other participants stay and the DM keeps working for them. Your message history stays visible to whoever’s left, but you lose access to the conversation until someone re-invites you.
