The character journal
There are two journals in PostRoll, and they’re for different things.
Your room journal — private table notes
Section titled “Your room journal — private table notes”Found in the journal panel during a session, and in the room’s Journal tab between them. It’s yours: the GM can’t read it unless you share a page with them, and it never appears on a public page by any route.
It’s the fuller writing surface — the same editor as the wiki, so you can link to entities and pages your GM has made and those links work.
Names you half-caught, doors you didn’t open, who owes whom. It belongs to one table and stays there.
The character journal — the character’s own record
Section titled “The character journal — the character’s own record”Found on the character sheet, under Journal. This one belongs to the character rather than to a table, so it travels with them: a new campaign, a new group, the character’s public page.
Entries are private to you by default. Tick Share on an entry and it becomes visible to anyone who can see that character — including on their public page, if you’ve published it.
It’s a plainer editor than the room journal, on purpose. A character isn’t filed inside a world, so there’s nothing for wiki links to point at.
Publishing an entry from one to the other
Section titled “Publishing an entry from one to the other”You usually write once, at the table, in the room journal. When an entry is worth showing off:
- Open the entry in your room journal.
- Press the send icon in its header.
- Pick one of your characters.
The entry is copied onto that character’s journal. Your private page stays private and stays where it is — publishing never moves or exposes it.
Press it again after editing and the published copy updates rather than adding a second one. Nothing syncs automatically: publishing is always something you do on purpose.
A few things don’t come across, deliberately:
- Links lose their destination but keep their words. A link to your GM’s wiki page would be a dead end for a stranger, and the URL itself could give away that the page exists.
- Images don’t come across at all. A map in your private notes is exactly the sort of thing that shouldn’t be republished by one tap.
There’s no way back. Nothing pulls a published entry into a private page and pretends it was never public.
Deleting
Section titled “Deleting”Deleting a private page doesn’t retract what you published from it — the published copy is its own thing from the moment it exists. Delete that separately from the character’s journal.
