Per-channel notifications
Per-channel notification levels let you tune how much each conversation interrupts you. Three levels, plus optional time-bounded mute.
Levels
Section titled “Levels”- All messages — every new message pings.
- Mentions only — only
@youmentions ping. Default for most channels. - Nothing — fully muted. Unread state still updates, you still see the bubble in the rail, but no notifications fire.
Set the level
Section titled “Set the level”- Open the conversation. Click the details icon in the header (or right-click the conversation in the rail).
- Find Notifications in the About tab.
- Pick a level from the dropdown.
The level applies only to this conversation. Set it once per channel that matters.
Mute for a window
Section titled “Mute for a window”The same dropdown has timed mute options:
- For 15 minutes
- For 1 hour
- For 8 hours
- Until tomorrow
Pick one to silence the channel temporarily. After the window expires, your previous level applies again.
Defaults from new-member onboarding
Section titled “Defaults from new-member onboarding”When you join a new group, the onboarding wizard asks which channels to follow. The ones you don’t pick get Mentions only by default; the ones you pick get All messages. Override per channel any time.
What still fires when muted
Section titled “What still fires when muted”- In-app unread state — the channel still shows as unread.
- Audit-log entries for moderation actions you trigger.
- Toasts for new direct messages — these are not tied to per-channel mute (a brand-new DM conversation alerts you once when it starts).
