Previously on…

A common GM goal: produce a “Previously on…” recap document after each session — concise, player-voiced, complete enough to remind returning players what happened. PostRoll has every piece for this workflow built-in.

  1. After the session, open /app/worlds/<world>/sessions/<session-id> and write the Player recap. 100-300 words is plenty.

  2. Reveal events that the players learnt this session. Open the Timeline tab, click each newly-discovered event, click Reveal in session… in the Inspector, pick this session.

  3. Optionally promote agenda items. If a hidden agenda item fired this session (a faction move, a deadline, a prophecy coming true), find the card on the Agenda tab and click Resolve.

  4. Switch to Chronicle, toggle Player-safe, scroll to your session’s group. Verify it reads correctly — you should see your player recap at top of the group, then the events you revealed, in chronological order.

  5. Click Export → Player-safe Markdown in the workspace’s top bar. A .md file downloads with all your sessions’ player recaps + revealed events, formatted as a player-facing document.

  6. Send it to your players. Drop it in your campaign Discord, a shared note, or just paste the markdown into wherever you usually share recaps.

The Markdown export’s player-safe mode contains:

  • The world’s name and description.
  • A World history section — events grouped by era / year, with hidden / GM-only events excluded.
  • A Sessions section — one heading per session, with each session’s player recap and the events discovered in that session.
  • For each event: title, date (shown in your primary calendar’s format), the Player summary (or the Summary when no Player summary is set), tags.
  • No GM notes, no GM recap, no GM only events.

The full GM export — same dropdown, “Full Markdown” — includes all of the above plus GM notes, GM recaps, and GM only events. Use it for personal archives.

Recaps live in your world, separate from the export. So you can:

  • Edit any session’s player recap mid-campaign.
  • Re-export at any time and the document reflects the current state.
  • Commit the exported .md files to a campaign repository if you like — Markdown makes diffs readable.
  • Match your players’ voice. If your party calls Aldren “Old Goldenrod”, call him that in the recap. They’ll find it more memorable than canon names.
  • Foreshadow with the Player summary, not GM truth. When an NPC drops a hint, the recap should record the hint as the players heard it — not the truth behind it. Use the Player summary on Partially revealed events to control exactly what reads back.
  • Use real-calendar dates. PostRoll shows dates in your primary calendar’s format automatically — “12 Brightember, 1247 SR” reads more memorable than “Session 8”.
  • Lead with one strong sentence. “The party arrived in Vael at dusk, found the dam half-broken, and made enemies of the ferryman.” sells the session in one line.
