Searching messages
To find a message, open the chat search popover from the header or the Search tab in the conversation details panel.
Run a search
Section titled “Run a search”- Open the conversation. Click the search icon in the chat header — or press Cmd+Shift+K (Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows / Linux) while chat is open. A popover slides out with a search bar, chip strip, and result preview.
- Type your query. Results appear as you type, ranked newest first.
- Click a result to scroll the message list to that message. The match highlights briefly.
- For more results or to broaden the scope across the group / all chats, click See all results at the bottom of the popover — it pivots into the full Search tab in the details panel with your query preserved.
Plain words and phrases
Section titled “Plain words and phrases”Plain words match. Multi-word queries match each token, and search is
English-stemmed — searching rolling matches rolls and
rolled.
To match an exact phrase, wrap it in quotes:

Section titled “Filter chips”Add chips to narrow what you’re looking for. Type the prefix
(from:, in:, has:, kind:, before:, after:,
mentions:, is:) and the search bar will suggest values you can
pick. You can also type the chip out yourself.

Within one chip, multiple values are an OR (from:@alice from:@bob finds either). Across different chips, it’s an AND
(from:@alice has:image finds Alice’s images).

Choose where to search
Section titled “Choose where to search”Below the search bar there’s a scope toggle:
- This chat — only the current conversation (default).
- This group — every channel in the current group. Disabled in DMs.
- All chats — every conversation you’re a member of.
When you broaden the scope, results show the channel and group above each match so you can tell where it came from.
What’s searched
Section titled “What’s searched”The text of every message you can already see. PostRoll ignores formatting when matching, so mention chips, slash-command output, and styled text all match cleanly.
Cmd+Shift+K
Section titled “Cmd+Shift+K”While chat is the active surface, Cmd+Shift+K (Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows / Linux) opens the chat search popover directly. Press it again to close.
Plain Cmd+K is not used for this. That shortcut belongs to the global command palette on every screen in PostRoll, chat included, so you can always jump somewhere else without leaving the keyboard. Every search that is scoped to one surface — chat here, a world’s hub, the card studio — uses the Shift variant.
