Save for Offline & Syncing

Save for offline downloads a world to your device so you can keep working without a connection. This page covers what gets saved, the Offline Library, and how your offline edits reach the server again.

Saving a world downloads the whole package:

  • Wiki — every page, your folder structure, and images
  • Maps — your world maps with their pins, regions, paths, and labels
  • Timeline — events, layers, and your world’s calendars
  • Entities & links — your cast and the relationship graph
  • Boards — the world’s boards (viewable offline; editing needs a connection)

You can also save an individual board — including boards that don’t belong to a world — from its Details panel on the boards page.

Your card library is separate (cards aren’t tied to a world): flip on Keep my card library offline in Settings → Offline and your cards — with their artwork and frames — stay viewable and editable on that device without a connection.

Settings → Offline lists everything saved to this device: each world’s page count, size on disk, and when you saved it, plus your total storage use. From here you can:

  • Browse — open a saved world in the familiar hub layout
  • Sync now — push pending changes without waiting for a reconnect (the button shows how many edits are waiting)
  • Remove a world from offline storage (the trash icon)
  • Resolve conflicts — appears when something needs your attention (see Resolving sync conflicts)

A banner appears when your connection drops — everything saved for offline stays editable underneath it. Your edits are kept on the device, in order, ready to send. New wiki pages and images you add offline work too; creating folders, maps, or boards needs a connection.

If you edit a page that wasn’t saved for offline, the edit isn’t lost: it’s kept as a local draft, and the next time you open that page you’ll be offered Restore or Discard.

When you reconnect, PostRoll sends your queued edits automatically and shows a summary (“3 offline changes synced”). Anything that couldn’t send yet is retried, waiting a little longer between attempts — Sync now always retries immediately. If an item you edited was also changed elsewhere, you’ll be asked to choose which version to keep — nothing is discarded until you decide.

Rarely, a change can’t be applied no matter how often it’s retried — for example if your access to that world was removed while you were offline. Those changes appear in a Needs attention list in the Offline Library, each with Retry and Discard. Either way your words are safe: a local draft copy is kept before anything is discarded.

If you were signed out in the meantime, your edits wait safely until you sign in again.

  • Saved worlds follow your account — save a world on your laptop and it downloads on your phone too.
  • You need a connection to download a world (or board) in the first place.
  • Signing out removes offline data from the device; you’ll be warned first if unsynced edits would be lost.
