The effect library

Every effect below is one click away in + Add Effect, grouped by category. Each one plays in the panel’s preview before you place it, and every setting can be changed afterwards — the library is a starting point, not a menu of fixed choices.

Effect Good for
Campfire A burning fire — campfires, braziers, hearths.
Flame wall Fire that follows a shape you’ve drawn — walls of flame, burning barricades.
Embers Slow glowing motes lifting off a dying fire.
Torch sparks Quick bright sparks popping off a torch or a forge.
Effect Good for
Rainfall Rain across the map, seen from the side.
Rainfall (top-down) Rain for a bird’s-eye map — drops streak outward from the centre.
Snowfall Flakes drifting down across the whole scene.
Effect Good for
Fountain spray Water thrown up and falling back — fountains, geysers, spouts.
Rising bubbles Bubbles rising through water — swamps, flooded rooms, cauldrons.
Steam White vapour off hot springs, cook pots and vents.
Effect Good for
Smoke plume Dark smoke pouring upward — chimneys, doorways, wreckage.
Fog bank A slow low-lying haze creeping across the ground.
Dust motes Fine specks hanging in a shaft of light — crypts, attics, ruins.
Effect Good for
Gas cloud A glowing green cloud that reads as dangerous from across the table.
Poison cloud Heavy poison settling over an area — stinking cloud, spore burst.
Arcane sparkles Violet-to-cyan motes swirling around a portal, rune or relic.

Any effect can be recoloured, resized, sped up or thinned out from the tuning tabs — a Poison cloud turned grey and slowed down makes a fine dungeon miasma, and Arcane sparkles in gold makes a treasure hoard glitter. See tuning an effect.
