Conditions

PostRoll recognises a small set of negative-vision conditions by name. When you apply one to a token, the engine automatically scales the token’s effective vision range — without you needing to remember to drop the slider manually.

Condition name Effect on vision
blinded (or blind) Vision range × 0 — the token sees nothing
vision-impaired, vision_impaired, impaired, partially-blinded Vision range × 0.5 — half range

The condition’s name is matched case-insensitively. So conditions named “Blinded”, “BLINDED”, “blinded by light”, or “blinded” all trigger the blinded multiplier.

Other condition names have no effect on vision (they may have effects elsewhere — see your game system’s rules).

If a token has both Blinded and Vision-impaired, the strongest effect wins (lowest multiplier). So Blinded + anything else = no vision; Vision-impaired alone = half vision.

The multiplier applies to the token’s effective vision range — that’s whichever is higher of the legacy Range slider or the maximum across enabled detection modes. So a token with Sight 1500 and Darkvision 3000 plus the Blinded condition has effective range 3000 × 0 = 0, regardless of how high the modes go.

A token with Vision-impaired and Darkvision 3000 has effective range 1500.

Conditions that are toggled off or hidden don’t apply. Toggle a condition off to temporarily lift its vision penalty without removing it from the token’s status list — useful for “the spell wears off in 1 round” style timing.

Conditions live in the token’s Status panel (system-dependent — your game system’s rules decide what conditions are available and what else they do beyond vision). Apply a condition the same way you do anything else:

  • From the token’s right-click menu → Add Condition (GM only).
  • From the conditions sidebar / dialog where you’d normally manage statuses.
  • Via slash commands or automation rules (depending on your game system’s setup).

The vision update is instant — once the condition is applied, the token’s lit area shrinks (or disappears) on the canvas immediately.

Bonus vision (e.g. a “Heightened Senses” buff that doubles vision range) is not currently a built-in condition shortcut — to grant a token extra vision, raise its range or add a longer detection mode directly. This may change in a future version.

Blinded, Vision-impaired, and the variants are recognised because they’re the most common rules-impact-vision conditions across systems we support. If you’d like additional keys recognised (e.g. Deafened to disable Blindsight specifically, or Dim Sight for a 0.75 multiplier), open a feature request — adding new keys is a small, isolated change.
