Recurring events

Some events repeat: a moon festival every year, the king’s coronation anniversary, a Council Jubilee every twelve years. PostRoll lets you author the event once and tag it with a recurrence pattern that the Calendar tab expands into virtual instances on every year’s grid. How it works

In the Event Inspector, edit mode, you’ll find a Repeats section under the When block. Pick a pattern:

Pattern Behaviour
Never (one-off) Default. The event appears on its authored date only.
Every year — same date The event re-appears on every year’s calendar at the same month + day.
Every year — intercalary day The event re-appears on the named intercalary every year (e.g. Founders’ Eve, Shieldmeet). Only available on calendars that have intercalary days.
Every N years The event re-appears every N years starting from a chosen anchor year. Useful for jubilees, eclipses, prophecies.

Save. Switch to the Calendar tab and scrub forward / backward — the event renders on every year (or every Nth year) the pattern qualifies for.

The original instance

The event you authored stays in place on its original year. The recurrence creates virtual instances for other years — they share the original’s id, layer colour, summary, and visibility. They don’t have their own database rows.

This means:

  • Editing the original event’s title or summary updates every virtual instance (they read live from the original).
  • Deleting the original removes every virtual instance — there are no orphan recurrences.
  • Linking an event to “the next Founders’ Eve” specifically isn’t possible — links anchor to the original event id, not a particular year’s instance.

Where recurrences appear

In v1, recurrences expand on the Calendar tab (Year strip, Month grid, Day drawer). Other tabs show only the original instance:

  • Timeline — original only
  • Chronicle — original only
  • Agenda — original only
  • Mystery — original only

Expanding into the other views is on the polish list but the calendar is where users most often want to see recurrences.

Examples

Anniversary of an event: a king’s coronation in 1170. Set recurrence = Every year — same date. The Calendar tab shows the event on every year’s 9 Lordmoon (or whatever date the coronation was).

Annual festival: Founders’ Eve, the Veilharrow calendar’s intercalary day. Set recurrence = Every year — intercalary day + pick Founders’ Eve in the dropdown. The festival shows up on every Founders’ Eve, regardless of the year.

Jubilee: a once-every-12-year council. Author the founding council in 1100. Set recurrence = Every N years with N=12 and anchor=1100. Calendar shows it on 1100, 1112, 1124, … and so on.

Eclipse cycle: every 19 years (Saros). Set N=19 with the anchor on a known eclipse year. Calendar shows the eclipse on every recurrence; you can author it once and have a cosmological pattern for the rest of your campaign’s history.
