Audio in a Session
Good session audio is felt, not noticed — and the controls need to be fast enough that you never fumble mid-scene. Here’s how to run sound during play.
GM controls during play
Section titled “GM controls during play”The audio panel travels with you: open it with the Audio button from almost anywhere in Postroll, and your sound keeps playing while you move between your world, boards, and scenes. The music-note icon pulses whenever something is playing, so you always know the soundscape is live.
Mid-scene, the essentials are:
- Volume slider — the master level for everything, right in the panel.
- Mute — the button at the top of the panel, for instant silence you can bring back just as fast.
- Stop all audio — the red button in the panel’s toolbar. An emergency brake: it halts every track, pad, and layer at once. Reach for it when the tavern theme is still playing over the ambush.
- Track / Master — switch the top playback controls between driving the current track and driving all your mix layers together (see Mixes & playlists).
Broadcasting to the table
Section titled “Broadcasting to the table”The panel above plays on your device. To put sound on everyone’s speakers, use the Table audio bar at the bottom of the tabletop while you’re in a room. Broadcasting to the table is a Booster feature; your players hear it on any plan, no setup required.
- Play scene — play the audio attached to the current scene for the whole table (see “A soundtrack for every place” below).
- Auto — keep it automatic, so each scene’s audio starts for the table whenever you switch scenes.
- Track — broadcast any track from your library to the table.
- Stop — silence everyone at once.
Players don’t need to do anything: a Table audio chip naming the current track appears for them with a mute toggle. If their browser blocks sound until they interact, the chip reads Tap to hear the table audio — one tap and they’re in.
You can also preview privately before you commit: pick the headphones in the track picker and the track plays only for you (an Only you chip shows), then Send to table when you’re ready.
A soundtrack for every place
Section titled “A soundtrack for every place”Places in your world can carry their own theme. Open a wiki page, scene, board, or entity you own and find its Audio section (in the tabletop it’s the Scene audio tab):
- Add a soundscape — a whole mood you saved from the Layers tab: every layer at once, each at its own level, with any sounds it plays now and then.
- Add ambience — the looping background the place plays under everything.
- Add music — its signature track.
Anyone who visits then sees a This place has a sound — tap to listen chip. In a live session, Play scene on the Table audio bar sends that scene’s audio to the whole table in one tap — for a soundscape, that’s every one of its layers.
