Placing effects
Adding an effect
Section titled “Adding an effect”- Press E to open the EFFECT TOOL, then click + Add Effect.
- Choose a category — Fire & heat, Weather, Water, Air & haze or Magic & hazard. The panel plays a small preview of whichever effect is highlighted, so you can see it before it hits the map.
- Click the effect you want. The panel switches to Click the map.
- Click where it should go. It appears there, named after the effect you picked, and is immediately selected for tuning.
Place a second Campfire and it’s named Campfire 2, so two fires never get confused in the list.
Managing what you’ve placed
Section titled “Managing what you’ve placed”Every effect in the scene is listed at the top of the panel under Effects (n). Click a row to select it; the effect’s square is highlighted on the map so you can see where it’s anchored, and the tuning controls appear below.
Each row gives you:
- an editable name — click it and type,
- Keep in a space — confine it to part of the map, covered in masking to spaces,
- Duplicate — a copy one square over, handy for a row of braziers,
- Delete.
Moving an effect
Section titled “Moving an effect”Drag it on the map. With the effect tool active, click and drag any placed effect and it follows the cursor; everyone else sees it move as you go.
For exact placement, open the Amount tab and type into Position X and Y instead.
What players see
Section titled “What players see”Effects are part of the scene, not a GM overlay — players see them, and they come back when the scene is reopened. If an effect should only run for part of a fight, turn off Runs continuously on the Amount tab and give it a duration in seconds.
Related
Section titled “Related”- The effect library — what each ready-made effect looks like.
- Tuning an effect — make it thicker, slower, a different colour.
- Keeping effects in a space — confine it to a room.
