The home feed mixes posts from every Outpost you’re part of into one stream — joined spaces, ones you’ve followed, and ones you support financially.

What the feed prioritises

The first time you scroll into the feed, posts are ranked by a combination of signals — not just “most recent”. In rough order of importance:

Recency — fresh posts dominate. Posts have a ~24-hour half-life: posts a day old appear at roughly half their original weight, two days at a quarter, a week at almost nothing.
Engagement — comments and reactions lift a post. A well-discussed post from yesterday can beat a freshly-posted empty one. Comments count for more than reactions (they’re a higher effort signal).
Your connection to the space — posts from Outposts you’ve joined rank above posts from Outposts you only follow, and posts from spaces you support financially get an extra nudge.
Pins and announcements — moderators pin things they want surfaced. Announcement posts get a small boost too.

Everything’s additive and bounded — no single signal can drown out the others. A blockbuster post can’t push pinned moderator content off the top; a fresh announcement still beats a stale viral thread.

Why your feed and a friend’s look different

The same post can rank differently for two viewers because of:

Whether you’ve joined the space. Joined > Followed > nothing.
Whether you’re a supporter. Active supporter tier subs add a boost.
Pinning — pinning is global to the Outpost, so this part is shared.
Time of day you open the app — recency is calculated when you load the feed.

The feed doesn’t track your reading time or click history. It only uses signals already explicit in your account (memberships, follows, subscriptions) and the post itself (age, comment count, reaction count, pin / kind).

Pagination — what happens when you scroll

Only the first page is ranked. After that, the feed continues chronologically (older posts from the same set of Outposts you’re connected to). This avoids “the post I scrolled past disappears” — once you’ve moved past the ranked top, you’re walking back through time.

If you want to see the most recent posts only and skip the ranking, just keep scrolling — page two onwards is in strict reverse-chrono order.

What’s not in the feed

Posts marked private (only the author + people they shared with see those).
Posts in Outposts that are frozen for moderation review.
Tier-gated posts you don’t have the role for.
Posts in Outposts that have been deleted.
