The Daggerheart duality dice roller

The duality dice roller rolls Hope and Fear as real 3D dice that scatter across the page — then reads the result the way the rules do.

Give it a Difficulty and it names which outcome you got, rather than leaving you to work it out:

Outcome What happens
Critical Success Matching dice. Automatic success with a bonus, gain a Hope, clear a Stress. Critical damage on an attack.
Success with Hope You succeed and gain a Hope.
Success with Fear You succeed with a cost, and the GM gains a Fear.
Failure with Hope You fail with a minor consequence and gain a Hope.
Failure with Fear You fail with a major consequence and the GM gains a Fear.

A Critical counts as a roll “with Hope”, so it never hands the GM a Fear even though neither die is higher.

  • Modifier takes your trait, an Experience, or anything else flat.
  • Advantage adds a d6 to the total; disadvantage rolls a d6 and subtracts it. Neither is an extra Duality Die, so neither ever changes which of Hope or Fear rolled higher.
  • Evasion is there for the GM’s side: an adversary’s attack is a d20 plus its Attack Modifier against a PC’s Evasion.

Switch to Other dice for everything that isn’t an action roll — weapon and spell damage, the d4 of Fear on a short rest, a lone d6, someone’s d20. Add dice from d4 to d100, set a modifier, and it totals the pool.

Roll here and the Fear pool beside it fills on any roll with Fear, and every countdown on the page advances by what that outcome dictates. That’s the part most rollers leave to you.

The roller is complete without one. A PostRoll account adds persistence: saved roll history, the Dice Lab’s luck and fairness statistics across every roll you’ve made, custom dice sets, and rolling into a shared game log with your table.
