Keyboard shortcuts

Every key below has been checked against the app. If it’s on this page, it works. The Help button in the toolbar shows the same list, filtered to the tool you’re holding.

Press a single key anywhere on the map to switch tools:

Key Tool
S Select
M Measure Mode
D Drawing Tool
E Effect Tool
L Lighting Tools
F Fog of War
W Wall Tool
H Height / 2.5D
T Overlay Tiles

Most of these are map-building tools. Only Select and Measure Mode are meant for everyone — the rest are the GM’s, and anything a player or observer tries to place with them is turned away by the table.

These keys are deliberately ignored when:

  • you’re holding a modifier (Ctrl, ⌘ or Alt) — so copy and paste never switch tools; or
  • your cursor is in a text field — chat, the console, a rename box.
Key What it does
Z Director mode — hides the interface so the map takes the stage (the combat carousel and your card hand stay). Press Z again or Escape to bring the UI back.
Key What it does
Space Pause or resume the game for the whole table. Works in live rooms; players see the full-screen pause treatment until you resume. The Pause button in the bottom-right map controls, the Resume game button on the pause card and the canvas right-click menu all do the same thing.

These need a token selected on the map:

Key What it does
Arrow keys Nudge the token one square in that direction. Hold two at once for a diagonal.
Shift + Arrow keys Turn the token to face that direction. Its vision (and its cone, if it has one) swings round with it. The image itself only rotates if Graphic Rotation is on for that token.
Key What it does
Escape Closes the open overlay, clears an in-progress ruler, cancels targeting, and cancels a forced-movement placement.
Enter Confirms targeting, accepts a forced-movement destination, and commits an initiative value you’re editing in the Combat panel.

While your cursor is in the command console’s input box:

Key What it does
↑ / ↓ Step back and forward through the commands you’ve already run.
Tab Accept the highlighted autocomplete suggestion.
↑ / ↓ (with suggestions open) Move up and down the suggestion list.
Enter Run the command.
Escape Clear the input.

Two shortcuts people often reach for don’t exist here:

  • Shift + Click to multi-select — there is no multi-select on the map. You can select several tokens at once, but only in the Tokens tab of the scene sidebar, using Shift-click or ⌘/Ctrl-click on the rows. See Moving & selecting tokens.
  • R to rotate — rotation is Shift + Arrow keys. There is no R shortcut.
