Layers
A layer is a track on the timeline canvas. Every event sits on exactly one layer, so you can hide / show whole categories at a time. Layers are coloured, ordered, and editable per world.
The five built-ins
Section titled “The five built-ins”Every world starts with these five layers built in:
| Slug | Default colour | What goes on it |
|---|---|---|
history |
violet | World history — births, deaths, foundings, battles, treaties, the long arc. |
sessions |
green | Per-session events. The Reveal-in-session button puts events here by default. |
prophecy |
amber | Foretold events. Render with a glow on the canvas. |
rumour |
grey | Unconfirmed claims, in-fiction rumours. Pair with certainty set to Rumour for the full dashed-border effect. |
agenda |
rose | Future / floating consequences. Most agenda-tab cards live here. |
These five built-ins can’t be removed or replaced, but their display name, colour, and order are all editable.
Custom layers
Section titled “Custom layers”The Settings → Layers list currently manages the layers your world already has — inline rename, a colour picker, and up / down arrows to reorder. A + New layer button for creating custom layers from the workspace is still on the way.
Common custom layers worth adding once creation ships:
- Faction Moves — recurring NPC schemes, separate from “history”.
- Player Knowledge — what the players know vs what’s true.
- GM Truth — the GM-only ground truth (set its visibility to GM only if needed for cycles, but events on the layer can still be GM only independently).
- Downtime — between-session activities.
- World Cycles — automatic events created at cycle-phase boundaries (when that polish ships).
Per-layer visibility (toggling)
Section titled “Per-layer visibility (toggling)”The left rail’s Layers section lists every layer with an eye toggle. Click to hide that layer from the current view. Hidden layers don’t appear on the canvas, the calendar grid, the chronicle, or the agenda.
This is per-session UI state, not a permission setting — players can also toggle layers off, but they can’t change what events exist or who can see them.
Archiving a layer
Section titled “Archiving a layer”Built-in layers can’t be archived. Archiving custom layers — keeping their events but dropping the layer from the sidebar — is part of the same upcoming Settings → Layers polish as layer creation.
Per-event layer picking
Section titled “Per-event layer picking”When you create an event, the Layer dropdown defaults to World History. Override it to put the event on a different track. Inside the Inspector, the layer is editable on existing events too — the pill colour changes immediately on the canvas.
