The reveal workflow

The Reveal in session… button on the Event Inspector is the fastest way to mark a previously-hidden or foreshadowed event as “the players just learned about this”.

It does three things in one click:

  1. Marks the event Revealed.
  2. Ties it to the session you pick.
  3. Records when it was revealed.

The button only appears when:

  • You have editor access to the world.
  • The event is not already Revealed.
  • The world has at least one anchored session.

If the world has no anchored sessions, the dropdown explains the gap — you’ll need to anchor a session first (see Sessions and recaps).

  1. Click Reveal in session… in the Inspector.

  2. The dialog defaults to your latest session by session number (or by when it started if no session number is set). Override the selection if you want to reveal it under a previous session (e.g. you forgot to do it at the time).

  3. Click Reveal.

The Inspector’s reveal status changes to Revealed; a footer shows “Discovered in (session title) · (date it was revealed)”.

After Reveal:

  • The event appears in the Chronicle tab under the chosen session’s group, with the full event content (assuming World visibility or broader for the players reading).
  • The event’s hidden / foreshadowed styling drops — it now appears as a normal card.
  • The Markdown player-safe export includes it under the session’s heading.
  • The session detail page lists it under “Events revealed in this session”.

The most useful pattern:

  1. Author hidden events ahead of time. When you plan an arc, create the inflection-point events set to Foreshadowed (or Hidden for total spoilers). Set visibility to World if players seeing a redacted placeholder is fine; GM only if they shouldn’t even see it on the canvas.

  2. Run sessions. When players actually discover the foreshadowed event, click Reveal in session… on it.

  3. Confirm in Chronicle player-safe mode. Switch the Chronicle to Player-safe → the newly-revealed event appears under the right session group.

  4. Send the players the recap. Use Export → Player-safe Markdown for an offline document.

This separation lets you write the world’s hidden truth fully ahead of time without spoiling players, then lift the veil with one click when the play actually happens.

Two similar-looking buttons:

  • Reveal in session… (Inspector) — marks the event Revealed. The event is now public to players, but its date and story unchanged.
  • Resolve (Agenda card) — marks the event Revealed AND clears the agenda date. The agenda item is now done; it’s no longer pending.

Use Reveal when the players learnt about something. Use Resolve when the something actually happened.
