Cards at the table
When your character has cards attached — spells, features, magic items — you can play them in a live scene with a single click. The card does what it says on its face: the table rolls the dice, applies damage and conditions to the right tokens, moves creatures that get shoved, spends the card’s uses, and posts the outcome to the game log for everyone to see.
This page is the quick tour. Playing cards on the VTT covers every detail — where the Play button lives, how saves and damage are worked out, and troubleshooting.
Playing a card
Section titled “Playing a card”Press ▶ Play on a card — from the Cards panel in the scene sidebar or from your character sheet. Then:
- If the card has more than one option (a wand with two powers, say), a prompt asks you to choose a mode before anything rolls.
- If the card needs targets, either select tokens on the map first, or play the card and pick targets when the prompt appears (“Select targets for Fireball”) — see Targeting. Cancelling targeting cancels the whole play: no dice rolled, no uses spent.
- The card resolves. A result card shows every step — attack rolls against armor class, each target’s own saving throw, damage (halved for creatures that saved, when the card says so), and any conditions landing only on the targets that failed. Hit points and status markers update on the tokens themselves.
Prompts you might see
Section titled “Prompts you might see”Some cards pause for a decision before finishing:
- “Apply …?” — a lingering bonus you set up earlier (like Hunter’s Mark) offers its extra damage after you hit. Choose Apply or Cancel.
- “An effect wants to play …” — one card triggers another, such as a magic item that casts a spell. You see the card and choose Play or Cancel; cancelling skips just that part.
- Push, Pull, or Move — when a card shoves a creature, a placement picker appears. Click where the creature ends up (within the allowed distance, shown live in feet), or cancel to leave it where it stands.
- Reactions — when your character takes damage and has a reaction card like Shield, a prompt appears on your screen only. Confirm to play it or Decline to pass.
