Import a scene from a map file

If your battle map already has walls and lights baked in — from Dungeondraft, Dungeon Fog, or Foundry VTT — you don’t have to trace them again. Import the file and PostRoll builds the scene for you: walls block sight, doors open and close, and lights glow.

Open Scenes and click Import Scene (next to + Create Scene).

A UVTT file (.dd2vtt or .uvtt) already contains the map picture, so this is fully automatic.

  1. Scenes → Import Scene, then choose your .dd2vtt or .uvtt file.

  2. Check the summary — the scene name, grid size, and how many walls, doors, and lights were found. Rename the scene if you like.

  3. Set Dynamic darkness (see below).

  4. Click Import Scene. The map image comes across with everything else.

Foundry keeps the map picture separate from the file, so you supply the image.

  1. Scenes → Import Scene, then choose the scene file — either a single scene you exported from Foundry (right-click a scene → Export Data), or a module’s scene pack: the file ending in .db inside the module’s packs folder. (You may need to switch the file dialog to All Files to see it.)

  2. If the pack holds several maps, pick the one you want from the Scene list.

  3. Upload the matching map image from the module’s maps folder — or leave it and add the map later in the scene editor.

  4. Set Dynamic darkness and click Import Scene.

The Dynamic darkness toggle decides how the scene starts:

  • On — the scene begins dark and the map’s own lights light it up, so players only see what’s in range (great for dungeons).
  • Off — the map stays fully lit. Walls and doors still control what each player can see.

PostRoll picks a sensible default from the file; flip the toggle before importing if you’d rather have the other.
