Widgets — small tools for worldbuilding and play
Widgets are PostRoll’s small tools — the ones that don’t belong to any single part of the app. Add the ones you use, and they’re a tap away beside whatever you’re working on.
That means the free Daggerheart tools, which are also inside your account here — same tools, same work, with two things the public pages can’t give you: they follow you between devices, and you can open one without leaving what you were doing. It also means generators that work for any game: names, an oracle and roll tables.
Keep the ones you use
Section titled “Keep the ones you use”Press Add on a tool and it joins Your widgets. Press it again — it now says Added — to take it off. You’ll find Add on the tiles of the Widgets page, beside every tool in the Widgets panel, and at the top of a tool’s own page.
Your widgets belong to your account, so the same list is waiting on your laptop and your phone.
Two ways to open one
Section titled “Two ways to open one”As a page. Go to Widgets in the sidebar, or
postroll.app/app/widgets. Pick a tool and it gets the whole screen — which is
what you want when you’re prepping.
As a panel. Open the Widgets tab in the panel cluster on the right (the same cluster as Chat, Assets and Notifications). It opens on Your widgets, with a few suggested tools under them and a search that finds any tool. Browse all widgets takes you to the full page.
It’s one tool either way. A colossus you edit in the panel is the same colossus on its full page, and on the free public version in the same browser.
Suggestions change with the page
Section titled “Suggestions change with the page”The panel suggests tools for what’s in front of you: the GM Screen and the Encounter Builder over a battle map or a board, the Faction Tracker and the Name Generator in a world, the equipment browsers on a Daggerheart character. A character from another game gets no Daggerheart suggestions — but still gets the tools that work for any game. Everywhere else, suggestions come from the games on your profile and the tools you’ve opened lately.
Finding one
Section titled “Finding one”The Widgets page starts with Your widgets and Suggested for you, then shelves named for what you’re doing, not which game it’s for:
- Worldbuilding — the Faction Tracker: who wants what, who hates whom.
- Play & GM — the GM Screen, the Encounter Builder, the Colossus Builder, the Feast Cooker, and Clocks, the Initiative Tracker and Safety Tools for any game.
- Reference — every adversary, environment, beastform, weapon, armor, item and consumable, sortable and comparable.
- Generators — the Name Generator, the Oracle and Roll Tables, for any game.
The search looks at more than the name, so monsters finds the Adversary Browser, taverns finds the Name Generator, and clocks finds both the GM Screen and the Faction Tracker. Tap a shelf name to narrow to just that shelf — the GM Screen turns up under Reference too, because half of it is rules.
Suggest a widget
Section titled “Suggest a widget”Missing a tool? Press Suggest a widget at the top of the Widgets page, or the Missing a tool? banner at the bottom of it — or Can’t find it? Suggest it when a search comes up empty, and what you typed is filled in for you.
-
Under What should it do?, describe the tool in a line.
-
Add detail under Anything else? if you like, and pick a Game system if it’s for one game. Leave it as No specific system otherwise.
-
Press Send.
Every suggestion goes to the PostRoll team and is read. Nobody else sees it.
Give the tool the room
Section titled “Give the tool the room”A tool’s own page opens with a bar across the top: its name, Add, and — for tools you can save — Save. Under it is what the tool does and how your work is kept. Press the arrow at the right of the bar (Hide details) to fold that away; Save stays where it is. PostRoll remembers your choice on that device.
Open in panel on the same bar puts the tool in the Widgets panel, so you can go back to your map or board with the tool still open beside it.
The GM Screen
Section titled “The GM Screen”The GM Screen has two tabs: Table — your Fear pool, countdowns and rests, with the Fear count on the tab itself — and Rules, nineteen panels you can search. Keep a table per campaign with Save as…. The battle map keeps its own Fear pool; the two don’t change each other. The whole story is in the GM Screen.
Your work follows you
Section titled “Your work follows you”Anything you build here is saved to your account, not just to the browser you built it in. Open PostRoll on your laptop and the colossus you were running on your phone is there.
If the same thing has been edited in two places, the most recent edit wins, and you’ll be told when a newer copy from another device has replaced what was in this browser.
Saved something before you had an account?
Section titled “Saved something before you had an account?”If you used the free tools and pressed Save this, that work was held in your browser. Sign in on that same browser and PostRoll restores it into your account on its own — you’ll get a note saying what came across.
-
Use a free tool at postroll.app/tools/daggerheart and press Save this.
-
Sign in (or sign up) in the same browser.
-
Open PostRoll. The work is restored into the matching tool, and a message tells you which one.
It only runs in the browser that holds the saved work, and it never overwrites something you’ve already built — if there’s already a colossus on your account, that one stays. A saved Fear pool from the free Fear tracker comes across into the GM Screen.
The public tools aren’t going anywhere
Section titled “The public tools aren’t going anywhere”Everything at /tools/daggerheart stays free, stays open, and needs no
account. The public pages also carry things these don’t: the rules explainer,
the FAQ, and the printable article. Every Daggerheart tool here links to its
public version in the details at the top of its page.
